From a distant 274th place last year, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has secured 19th place in the Swach Bharat results which were announced by the Government of India.
According to GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, the GHMC took up various innovative schemes to improve its ranking in Swach Bharat campaign. The Government of India has taken up this scheme from 75 main important cities across the country. Of total 2,000 marks, 1000 have been allotted to the city and another 1000 to the citizens.
Out of 2,000 marks, Hyderabad city got 1355 primarily due to initiatives like Parichayam Karyakramam, Pre-Fabricated toilets, providing two dust bins to each households, 2000 auto tippers, sanitation and solid waste management.
In the current year, the GHMC took several steps to attend issues like Solid Waste Management and providing basic minimum facilities to the citizens. The GHMC Commissioner hoped that the city would rank among Top-10 in Swach Bharat campaign next year.(INN)
