Hyderabad, October 30: In view of the forthcoming elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the city police have asked the licensed arms holders to deposit their weapons and also prohibited processions and rallies in the city without prior permission. The elections are scheduled for November 23.
City Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao, in a notification issued on Thursday, asked all the arms licence holders to deposit their weapons with the police stations concerned or authorised arms dealers before Nov 11.
Persons, who were employed on guard duty on the premises of nationalised banks, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and security personnel in the city are exempted from depositing the weapons. Penal action would be initiated against those who fail to deposit the weapons and the weapons would be confiscated.
They would also be prosecuted under appropriate provisions of the law, Prasada Rao said.
Meanwhile, the police said that any meeting, procession, padayatra or rally by any political party or organisations should be carried out with prior permission. The permission should be sought from the assistant commissioners of police concerned.
The organisers, political parties and contesting candidates should apply for a written permission to the concerned ACPs in advance and a separate permission should be taken for use of loud speakers including mobile publicity.
