GHMC to plug transport leaks

Hyderabad, April 06: In view of the alleged large-scale corruption in the Transport Section of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the authorities have proposed a series of reforms to stem the rot.

The measures include replacing the security personnel, installing vehicle tracking technology and strict monitoring of vehicle maintenance operations besides improving the productivity of the workforce.

The corporation has proposed to engage the services of G4 Security Services Pvt Ltd to tighten security at the three parking yards at Khairatabad, Malakpet and Kavadiguda which also house the diesel stations. Home guards of the Vigilance and Enforcement wing of the GHMC will also be deployed at the three pumps at night for additional security. The officials plan to implement the Automatic Vehicle Tracking system with GPS & GPRS technology for monitoring of vehicles.

Computerisation of indents for repairs to vehicles has been proposed to keep a check on expenses. Vehicle- wise and month-wise expense details can be accessed at any time through the system. The system of using indent books will be dispensed with.

The GHMC has also come up with the idea of procuring directly from manufacturers replacements like tyres, batteries and spares to ensure genuine parts besides some cost saving.

Similarly, all major repairs like engine over hauling and body building will be undertaken through authorised agencies like Automotive Manufactures and Jasper Industries.

Bio-metric system of attendance has been installed at the above mentioned parking yards for drivers and labourers and their salaries would be paid basing on the data.

The GHMC has also decided to go for third party audit for quality control checks on payment of bills for repairs and spares. The Expression of Interest has been sought from reputed firms and organisations for the purpose.
