GHMC plans to demolish shops of Masjid Almas

450 year old Masjid Almas is located hardly at a distance of 1 kilometre from Charminar and Makkah Masjid. It also has a shrine of Hazrat Mohammed Nayeem Miskeen Shah Quadri Naqshbandi. GHMC, in the name of road widening, is planning to demolish 80 shops under Masjid Almas and Dargah Hazrat Miskeen Shah Quadri. While state waqf board has agreed for the demolition of granite made shops on some conditions. Some tenants told that they are doing business in the shops for 40 years and paying rent of Rs. 400. Many families depend on the shops for their bread and butter. The road widening is indispensible since the 20 feet road is facing traffic congestion. But the tenants are worried about what they will get as compensation if the shops are demolished.

Mutavali Ghulam Murtaza Siddiqui told that there is nearly 40000 sqyd land under the masjid but only 2 acre remained in their possession including shops; where has the remaining 6 acre 7 gunta land gone? No one knows! Mutavali also revealed that 4 temples have been built at the waqf land of Masjid Almas.

On January 3, 2013 Chief executive office Waqf Board sent a letter to GHMC commissioner putting the conditions for demolition that the compensation must be paid as per market rate and the entrance, toilets, ablution house and water tank of the masjid must be reconstructed by GHMC in case of road widening. It remains to be seen whether GHMC pays the compensation as per market rate or not.
