Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to construct roads of international standards on a stretch of 1,000 KM in the city.
Addressing a review meeting with the senior officials here on Tuesday, GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar said that besides construction of roads of international standards, the corporation would also initiate a few more projects to make Hyderabad a global city. Referring to the PV Narasimha Rao Express Way where people can travel 11-12 KM stretch of road in just 12 to 13 minutes, he said similar express ways would be constructed on all important junctions in the city. He said the traffic congestion in the city would be eased by constructing more number of express high ways and flyovers within a stipulated time.
The GHMC Special Officer said since such development projects would need lot of funding, the corporation would take immediate measures to improve its revenues.
The GHMC is also planning to take up the task of beautification and protection of 36 lakes. Further, as many as 1,000 urinals will be constructed covering all the circle and zonal offices. There will be at least two ladies toilets in each circle for the convenience of the women citizens.
GHMC Special Commissioner Ahmed Babu, Engineer-in-Chief, Chief Engineer, Chief City Planner, Zonal Commissioners, Additional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and other senior officials including heads of various departments attended the review meeting. Somesh Kumar directed all the Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and the Chief City Planner to implement the High Court orders on priority basis to remove encroachments on the footpaths. (INN)
