GHMC officials inspect Gaddiannaram fruit market

A team of Food Safety Officers, Food Safety Designated Officers, Asst. Medical Officer of Health, Circle No.3 along with concerned Sanitary Supervisors headed by the Chief Medical Officer of Health, GHMC have conducted Surprise inspections on Tuesday at Gaddiannaram Fruit Market to identify whether ripening of fruits in the markets by using Carbide.

The use of Carbide is violation to the terms of 2.3.5 of Food Safety & Standards Rules & Regulations, 2011 that “No person shall sell or offer or expose for sale or have in his premises for the purpose of sale under any description, fruits which have been artificially ripened by use of acetylene gas, commonly known as carbide gas”.

In this regard, all the traders in the GHMC limits who are dealing with fruits are instructed that, they shall not use the carbide or any other methods for ripening of fruits artificially. They shall abide to the Rules & Regulations of the Food Safety & Standards Act and also the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act. (INN)
