GHMC to maintain graveyards

Hyderabad, June 11: All the graveyards in Hyderabad district currently being maintained by the district authorities would be taken over by the municipal corporation within 45 days, commissioner Sameer Sharma has said.

At the DRC meeting, the commissioner said boundaries would be marked and boundary walls would be constructed to protect the lands from grabbers. Several MLAs complained to Hyderabad incharge minister K Sabitha Indra Reddy that graveyards in the twin cities were being encroached upon indiscriminately and there was a need to protect them.

Last year, the state government asked the Hyderabad district collector to hand over the maintenance and protection of all the graveyards in the city to the GHMC.

District collector Natarajan Gulzar said the control of graveyards would be transferred to the GHMC soon.
