GHMC lodges police complaint in wall collapse incident

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to register a criminal case against the owners of the building at P&T Colony of Dilsukhnagar whose wall collapse killed two labourers while another was injured.

Expressing shock over the incident, GHMC Additional Commissioner (Planning) K Dhananjay Reddy said that the incident happened due to the non-compliance of guidelines given after soil testing. Basing on the soil test report the owner/site Engineer has to leave 10 feet distance in order to take up cellar digging. However, the owner has left only 7 feet distance and caused the mishap, he said.

Dhanunjay Reddy informed that a criminal case will be booked on the owners of the building for their negligence attitude. He informed that the building was owned by Srisailam, Purnachander Rao, Anuradha and Leela and the GHMC has sanctioned them Two Cellar G+4 floors building permission with an area of 1192.28 sq.mts. He also informed that the soil would be again tested and action would be initiated if there was any discrepancy on the part of the empanelled officials of GHMC.

The Additional Commissioner also announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh from the Mayor’s discretionary funds as ex-gratia and Rs 50,000 will be paid by the Collector under the Apathbandhu scheme and the matter of getting compensation from the builder would be negotiated as per the request of the deceased family members.
