Thousands of job aspirants faced disappointment when their candidature was rejected by the companies in the second Mega Job Mela organised by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation here on Tuesday.
Hundreds of candidates queued up at the Job Mela venue at Banjara Function Hall on Road No 12, Banjara Hills, since early morning on Tuesday. However, those aspiring to get jobs in the Information Technology sector were disappointed after learning that they would have to wait till January 2013 for the Special IT Job Mela to get a job. They complained that the decision to bar IT jobs’ aspirants from Tuesday’s job fair was taken very late by the GHMC and they were not directly intimated about the same.
For over 13,000 applicants who registered their names for the Job Mela, nearly 50 participating companies kept 4,518 jobs on the offer. Since the IT sector applicants were kept away from the recruitment process, the candidates who have completed graduation, intermediate or passed SSC, tried their luck on Tuesday. Long queues were seen at the stalls of retail companies, especially the Bharati Walmart.
However, many candidates failed to impress the recruiters with their skills. A small percentage of job aspirants were shortlisted by the companies and they would be intimated about the second round of interview through e-mail or SMS. Bharati Walmart, Max Life Insurance and a few other companies have picked sizeable number of prospective candidates in the Job Mela. However, the companies have refused to divulge the exact statistics.
The Job Mela was inaugurated by GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain and was attended by Nampally MLA Virasat Rasool Khan. Several GHMC officials were also present.
