Hyderabad: GHMC is keen on implementing energy efficient initiatives in street lights, office buildings, as well as domestic lighting and the electrical engineers, were striving to conserve energy by taking new initiatives.
As a part of energy conservation measures, the GHMC has come out with Centralised Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) for streetlights, which enable controlling and monitoring of streetlights in the entire city from a centralised location. In this system, all the streetlights will be controlled and monitored through CCMS boxes by establishing a centralised command center.
A total of 4.6 lakh streetlights will be linked with 24,862 CCMS units. These boxes are GSM-based, specially designed for street lighting projects which further ensures an optimal on-field product performance. This will result in drastic reduction of operational and maintenance cost which is estimated about 30 percent less than the present expenditure.
Any citizen can view the glowing/non-glowing condition of street lights and all electrical parameters through the dashboard. So far, 2,400 CCMS units have been installed in the city. (NSS)
