Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has identified 1197 old buildings for demolition. It has already demolished 239 buildings. The loss of 7 lives yesterday due to incessant rains has diverted the attention of GHMC to take up demolition of old buildings.
Mr. KT Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration told that despite issuing notices several times, the inhabitants of old buildings are not vacating which are causing inconvenience. Some of the owners have approached the court. In such a case, GHMC is helpless for getting the residence evicted from the buildings. He further told that as a precautionary measure, the residents of such buildings would be got vacated since there is a danger of lives.
GHMC has already demolished 239 old buildings. Steps have been taken to shift the inhabitants to safe places. Engineering staff of GHMC have been instructed to issue notices to the occupants of old buildings informing them about the proposed date of demolition. Minister has also instructed the Municipal Staff to seek the cooperation of Peoples’ representatives so that public should be taken into confidence for the demolition.
