Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation suffers a serious jolt when a big scam by the contractors in the funds provided for the construction of CC road, was exposed. The matter came to light when the authorities visited the area following repeated complaints by the residents.
The authorities ware amazed after inspection to find that funds have already been issued for construction of roads at all these areas.
After scrutinizing books, it found glaring shortfalls in measurement and even cases where no work has been done at all.
Embezzlement of funds by contractors was discovered in 36 cases to the tune of more than Rs 50 lakhs in Doodh Bowli and Fateh Darwaza divisions alone. While according to sources the scam exceeds crores of rupees.
Contractors had collected funds from the department to construct roads at Fateh Darwaza and Doodh Bowli but the roads there are still battered.
Sources say that most of the fudging of funds was done on the pretext of laying CC and BT roads and for repairing catchpits primarily in the Doodh Bowli and Fateh Darwaza divisions.
