GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to construct toilets for households who are not having the facility till date.
During the Intensive Household Survey held in August 2014, it was found that nearly 35,000 houses were not having toilets. The GHMC is planning to conduct another household survey through Urban Community Development in the coming days.
The GHMC Commissioner said that each unit cost of toilets would be around Rs. 12,000/- for each household. Of this, the GHMC share is Rs. 8,000/- and Government of India share is Rs. 4,000/. In this contest, a meeting was conducted at the GHMC Head Office with all the Zonal, Deputy Commissioners, AMOHs in the presence of the Mayor Bonthu Rammohan. After the completion of the survey by the UCD Department, a committee will be formed with NGOs after that the construction of toilets will be taken up in two phases.
The GHMC is having insanitary latrines for which the GHMC is planning to change to that of septic tank latrines at present 86 toilets are existing, 48, Sulabh complexes. The GHMC is planning to take up 188 public toilets where applications have been received through Slum level Federations and other organizations. The GHMC has already taken up modern toilets in the recent past it has to be taken proper care for 100% utilization said the Commissioner.
