GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has directed the Engineering officials to complete the desilting works by 21st May, much before the onset of monsoon.
The Commissioner held a review meeting with maintenance Engineers along with GHMC Chief Engineer T Anjaneyulu in Panwar Hall today. The Commissioner said that 297 works with regard to desilting of nalas has been sanctioned this year for Rs. 21.21 crores, directed the officials to speed up the desilting works and informed that he will be conducting surprise inspections on Friday and Saturday (9 & 10th May), action will be initiated on the erring officers if the progress is not found.
Somesh Kumar directed to remove the silt after getting dried and cart it within 24 hours. He further informed that the mechanisms utilized such as OSRT (Offset Real Time ), GPRS, Signatures from local people and weighment at Jawaharnagar dumping yard will not only pave for transparency but also helps the officer concerned in their future. The Commissioner directed the Chief Engineer to submit daily report on desilting.
The Commissioner said that GHMC has identified 104 stagnation points, estimates are prepared for 57 works with a sanctioned amount of
Rs. 4.13 crores. The Commissioner expressed anger over the engineering officials who have not started the works which are of below Rs. 5 lakhs cost and which are mostly of urgent in nature, for which orders are already given to take up on unit rate. He has directed the Chief Engineer to submit the list of stagnation points by duly bifurcating the works which are below Rs. 5 lakhs and above Rs. 5 lakhs by tomorrow afternoon. He further directed to call for short tenders for the works which are above Rs. 5 lakhs cost.
Somesh Kumar informed that 395 habitations are covered under summer action plan in GHMC limits with a sanctioned amount of Rs.8.21 crores. For engaging 134 regular water tankers a sum of Rs. 6.48 crores has been sanctioned, for engaging 35 additional water tankers a sum of Rs. 0.63 crores has been sanctioned and for flushing and repairs to bore wells a sum of Rs. 1.10 crores has been sanctioned, he explained.
The Commissioner directed the Engineering officials to complete the BT patch works within two weeks time. The Chief Engineer explained that Rs. 27.53 crores has been sanctioned in four phases for BT patch works and Rs. 10.70 crores worth works have been completed.
Somesh Kumar informed that 422 number of open spaces are identified by Town planning Department and in order to protect them from encroachments an amount of Rs. 41.82 crores has been sanctioned. The Commissioner directed the Engineering officials to take up the construction of compound walls on priority.
The Commissioner directed the Additional Commissioner (Information Technology) to keep all the sanctioned works under the heads such as Desilting of Nalas, Water Stagnation Points, Summer Action Plan, BT Patch Works and Compound walls to open Spaces on GHMC website for transparency and accountability of the works taken up.
