GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy has directed officials to ensure quality in the construction of roads in the city.
Addressing a review meeting with the senior officials of Engineering Wing and Quality Control Cell on Thursday, the GHMC Commissioner said that all prescribed norms and quality control measures should be adopted in the construction of 180 kilometers road in the city. He said steps should also be taken to ensure their proper maintenance.
Dr. Janardhan Reddy said that several roads were damaged due to recent heavy rains and therefore, the corporation has decided to construct and repair 180 KM stretch of roads at a cost of Rs. 75 crore. He said of 9,000 KM roads in GHMC limits, almost half of them are single window roads. He said that the GHMC officials should inform the police and other concerned departments well in advance before taking up construction or repair of such roads. He informed that the GHMC has taken up road repairing works for about 900 KM roads.
Professor Laxman Rao of R&B, Retired Chief Engineer Bhav Narayana and Quality Control S.E Shiva Raj explained all the necessary precautions to be taken while taking up the road repairing works. These works will be taken up from Friday onwards in the entire GHMC limits. (INN)
