GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has felicitated K. Venu, Bill Collector, Kapra Circle for collecting Rs. 1 crore 12 lakh as property tax against his target of collecting Rs. 90 lakh in Commissioner’s chambers on Friday.
The Commissioner has handed over a proceeding of sanctioning of 2 basics of the individual’s pay to K Venu as a token of encouragement. It is to recollect that the Commissioner with the consent of the Corporation has promised to give incentives to the Bill Collectors, Valuation Officers, Deputy Commissioners and Zonal Commissioners basing on their performance in collecting property tax. The incentive scheme has started yielding its results and the first fruit of that scheme has come from Kapra Circle (Circle-1). Circle-1 has stood No.1 in the incentive scheme.
The GHMC has collected Rs. 683 crores as on 13.03.2014 which is Rs. 128 crores more than that of last year’s collection on 13th March. The West Zone stood first in collections with showing 29% of growth followed by East Zone with 25% of growth. The overall growth than last year is 18% as on 13th March, 2014. Circle Sherilingampally 1 stood first with collecting 36% more than that of last year and Circles Kapra, Alwal and Malkajgiri stood second with 28% of growth.
During the year 2012-13 an amount of Rs. 747.00 Crores have been collected towards Property Tax. For the year 2013-14 so far an amount of Rs. 683.00 Crores has been collected for a target of Rs. 1250 Crores to augment the collection, several measures have been taken.
The GHMC has formed 150 special drive teams in 18 circles with officers from all wings. A total of 37 focus teams have been formed to verify the un-assessed and under assessed properties. SMS has been sent to about 12.00 lakhs property holders in the City. Focused SMS to 1.5 lakh people has been sent requesting them to pay the tax. A 24×7 call centre (040-211111111) has been established to call about 1.65 lakh defaulters to remind them of the tax.
The Commissioner said that all senior officers in the Head Office are also assigned the task of monitoring property tax collection. An incentive scheme, first of its kind has been introduced to boost the moral of the revenue staff. All the Revenue Staff who collect more than 50% of what was collected during 2012-13 in their area are given two months basic salary. The incentive is changed according to their achievement. (INN)
