GHMC chief reviews arrangements for Bonalu, Ramzan festivals

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has strictly warned the Engineering officials against diverting the works allocated for Ramzan and Bonalu works for other works.

The Commissioner inspected various temples and mosques in the South Zone on Wednesday to review the various works taken up in view of upcoming festivals. He has directed Bala Subramanyam Reddy, Zonal Commissioner, South Zone and K. Babu Rao, Additional DCP, South Zone to finalise the list of works to be taken up on main roads including Bonalu procession routes, if at all they are left out.

The Commissioner observed that the main roads including procession routes will be only of 6 – 7 kilometers and instead of patch works, the officials should focus on complete makeover. He said that the GHMC was ready to sanction Rs 1-2 crore for those works. He also observed that catch pits / manholes were below the road level around Charminar, near Laldarwaja and Akkanna Madanna temple. He has directed the engineering officials to take up the works to raise the catch pits/ man holes to the road level, failing which some mishaps may during the procession of Ghatas.

Somesh Kumar inspected Mecca mosque and reviewed the shamiyana arrangements and renovation of footpaths in front of the mosque. He also interacted with the pilgrims there and received applauds from them that some good work is being taken place around Mecca mosque this year.

The Commissioner directed N Ravi Kiran, Additional Commissioner (Health and Sanitation) to see that no garbage or debris is piled near any religious place or on the main roads of South Zone. He directed the officials not to take up general works in guise of festival works, which cannot be grounded in a stipulated time and promised that all the general works will be sanctioned by him at a later date, if proper justification is given.
