GHMC Chief reviews arrangements for Bathukamma festival

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Wednesday reviewed the arrangements for celebration of Bathukamma festival in the city.

The GHMC chief, along with senior officials inspected the roads and footpaths from L.B. Stadium to Tank Bund, Rotary Park in connection with the Bathukamma festival celebrations which is scheduled to be held on 2nd October. He informed that since the State Government has declared Bathukamma as a State festival, elaborate arrangements are being made for its celebrations.

Somesh Kumar said that nearly 30,000 people are likely to participate in the Bathukamma procession from L.B. Stadium to Tank bund on 2nd October. Elaborate arrangements all along the Tank Bund are being made and a Ghat is also being planned permanently at Rotary Park at Tank Bund as a permanent feature where women will perform the rituals. Since the event is purely related to water activity, all precautionary measures are being taken for the convenience of the women.

The Commissioner said that the special sanction will be taken from the government to speed up the works. The GHMC will make similar arrangements at all the 18 identified lakes in its jurisdiction.

Special teams have been formed to carry out sanitation on 24×7 basis with a special focus on Tank Bund.

Special Commissioner Pradyumna, Central Zone Commissioner Dr. Satyanarayana, Engineer-in-Chief R Dhan Singh, Chief Engineer K Suresh and other senior officials from Engineering, Town Planning and Health wings have participated in the inspection. (INN)
