GHMC chief explains about developmental activities

GHMC Commissioner & Special Officer Somesh Kumar today hoisted National Flag at the Head Office in connection with first anniversary of Telangana Formation Day.

Somesh Kumar said people of Telangana are celebrating the one year State formation day celebrations because many people fought and died for Telangana State. The citizens should salute them for their selfless services and those who laid down their lives for the sake of Telangana. He further said the State government has taken up various innovative schemes since last year and successfully implemented. The Commissioner said he was proud to be a part of development of Greater Hyderabad.

The Commissioner said the Swachh Telangana–Swachh Hyderabad program has been taken up involving 425 teams and all citizens. In the five-day program, some 60K tons of garbage and debris was lifted with the people’s wholehearted cooperation. He said the GHMC was planning to constitute a committee to take up Swachh Telangana – Swachh Hyderabad program in a more appropriate way to improve the City on international standards. He said 2,000 tippers, modern equipment and machinery will be deployed to keep the city clean.

Stating that debris clearance is one of the biggest problems, Somesh Kumar said in the next two days the GHMC would call for tenders for lifting of debris on permanent basis. The government has issued a G.O. with regard to Strategic Road Development Plan. He said the Chief Minister issued the G.O for taking up the project at an estimated cost of Rs 4,051-crore Strategic Road Development Plan.

The GHMC is also planning 1000 gymnasiums, 1,000 sports grounds, 1,000 e-Libraries, 50 multipurpose function halls, 1000 open spaces will be protected with compound walls and fencing, he said. Tricycles and auto rickshaws are being provided to labour for door-to-door garbage collection, he added. (NSS)
