Hyderabad, February 15: Officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Monday launched removal of huts in the Singareni Colony at Saidabad, here. But the slum-dwellers foiled the attempts of the officials and expressed their resentment by resorting to agitation.
With the hut-dwellers not letting the officials to proceed with the task, tense situation gripped the area. However, the police accompanying the officials resorted to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control. Consequently, skirmishes took place between the police and the protestors. A police inspector was reportedly injured in the melee. Later, the protestors set their huts on fire to express their protest against the officials’ action.
