The GHMC has started nala disilting works to the tune of Rs. 30.18 crores with 100 kilometers of length of nalas in all the circles from today.
This is the first time that the GHMC has started disilting of nala works before 5 months prior to the rainy season that GHMC has taken this type of initiative first time in the history of Municipal Corporation.
Every year the GHMC use to take up these works before one or two months on set of monsoon but as per the direction of the Minister MA&UD K. Taraka Rama Rao and city Mayor has called for tenders well in advance and started these works from January 31st onwards.
After launching the disilting works at Nacharam and Meerpet, the Mayor said that in the yester years these works were taken up prior one to 2 months before the monsoon. But keeping in new of the hardships, it has been decided to take up these works on priority throughout the year five month prior to rainy season.
The GHMC is having 951 kilometers extent major nalas, drains, small nalas, pipe drain etc., all the desilting works are being taken up continuously through the year for more convenience and by the year 2017 end 100% works has to be completed.
To this effect directions have been given to the concerned said the Mayor, around 1000 kilometers nala desilting works i.e., 216 kilometers major nalas, where 4,49,111 cubic meters silt is going to be removed and 735 kilometers main drains etc., 3,33,780 cubic meters silt is also planning to be removed. The entire responsibility of the works have been entrusted to the contractors to shift the silt to the dumping yard and also will be dumped in low lying areas etc., as per the need arises.
Dr.B.Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC said that the desilting works are being taken up in all circles office from today with modernized machines in major nalas and storm water drains with jetting machines, wherever not possible those areas silt will be removed manually by which much convenience will be for the citizens by taking such initiatives.
