Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan passes away

Legendary ghazal maestro Mehdi Hasan passed away at a private hospital in Karachi on Wednesday, Express News reported.

Hasan had been under treatment at hospitals in Pakistan for a while, and there had also been reports of shifting him to India.

He was admitted at a hospital in Karachi for the past couple of weeks after he had developed a chest infection and breathing problems.

He passed away after he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the hospital.

“My father passed away at 12:22 PM after a long battle against different ailments,” his son Arif Hassan said.

Hundreds of fans gathered at the hospital on learning of his death.

The singer last performed in India in 2000. The Rajasthan government had extended support to the ailing singer’s family and had even promised medical treatment in the state. Hassan couldn’t visit India for treatment.

However, he wished to meet Lata Mangeshkar, Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.

It is expected that funeral prayers will be held after Zuhr prayers tomorrow
(Thursday).
