Mumbai, October 16: The Bombay High Court today handed over to CBI the probe into custodial death of an under-trial here, suspended three policemen in connection with the incident and directed that offence of murder be registered against them.
Altaf Shaikh (22) was arrested last month in connection with a house-breaking case and taken to suburban Ghatkopar police station on September 9. He was found dead in the lock-up next morning.
According to the police, he died due to drug overdose but the postmortem report revealed several injuries on his body.
The court today also suspended sub-inspector Sanjay Khedekar, constable Raghunath Kolekar and police naik Sanjay Thombre, saying cases of murder and causing grievous injury be registered against them.
