Aligarh: Some Kashmiri students tried to offer Ghaibana namaz-e-janaza of Mannan Wani an ex-AMU student who was killed during an encounter with police. However, AMU administration and senior students foiled the attempt. On the occasion, some anti-national slogans were also said to be raised. AMU administration took strong note and issued a notice to 9 students. Cases were booked against 2 students of AMU.
Spokesman of Aligarh Muslim University Prof Shafey Khidwai told that no namaz-e-janaza was offered, not only the proctor office but the boys also condemned the effort and dispersed the crowd of students who gathered there. He said our country’s interest is the top priority for us and we cannot compromise with that.
He informed that the administration took action and issued a show-cause notice to 9 students and formed a 3 member committee to conduct an enquiry into the incident. Several MPs and ministers have expressed concern over the incident.
Research scholar-turned-terrorist Mannan Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara. The encounter occurred at Langate, nearly 80 km from Srinagar. After receiving a tip-off about the presence of two terrorists in a residential house in the area, security forces launched a pre-dawn operation.
Mannan Wani who was a research scholar of the Aligarh Muslim University in the past had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen earlier this year. He had been studying Applied Geology. It must be noted that Mannan Wani had gone missing in January this year. Later his photo, holding a gun, surfaced on social media.
