Get your facts pat, CM tells ministers

Hyderabad, July 24: Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy today asked Cabinet colleagues and officials to have facts at their fingertips during the Assembly session beginning tomorrow.

Chairing a meeting here today with the ministers to discuss the State Government’s strategy, Rajasekhara Reddy asked them to read newspapers every day to keep in touch with the problems being faced by the public and be well-prepared to answer questions raised during the deliberations.

He pointed out that though the Congress had a majority, it was answerable to the public and should be receptive to all its grievances. Dereliction of duty by ministers and officials would not be tolerated, he warned.

The chief minister urged his colleagues to be alert and foil attempts by the Opposition, especially the Telugu Desam, to “mislead’’ people about various initiatives of the State Government.

Issues like weeding out of bogus ration cards and severe scarcity of water in 19 districts in the State would come up for discussion in the Assembly, he said, and asked the higher officials to depute a nodal officer each at the State Assembly and the Legislative Council on behalf of each department to “coordinate the required information’’.
