Germany kick off Euro campaign with 2-0 win over Ukraine

London: Germany began their quest for a record fourth European Championship title with a 2-0 win over Ukraine in their Group C clash on Monday.

The world champions produced a good attacking display, but they came under fire defensively in the first half of the match.

Striker Shkodran Mustafi put Germany ahead by smashing a header in the 19th minute of the match before midfielder and substitute Bastian Schweinsteiger doubled the lead through an injury-time goal, the Guardian reported.

Germany, who have climbed up to the top of Group C standings with the win, will play their next match against Poland on June 17 (ANI)
