Neuruppin, July 29: An 11-year old girl in eastern Germany is believed to have been imprisoned by her parents for up to nine years, media reports said Wednesday.
The girl, who never attended school, was believed to suffer from both mental and physical disabilities, local media said.
Social services took charge of the girl and brought her to a clinic after a neighbour reported the case, a county government spokeswoman said.
Chief prosecutor Juergen Schiermeyer told RBB radio Tuesday evening that authorities were investigating a case of parental neglect but declined to give , owing to the ongoing investigation.
The Education Ministry of the state of Brandenburg is also investigating how the parents could avoid sending the girl to school.
