Genes found to be main cause of graying hair

London, Dec 02: While many consider environmental factors such as stress, diet and smoking as the main factors leading to graying hair, a new study finds genes to be more important.

According to the study published in PLoS One, genetic factors and family history are more important than environmental factors in causing hair to turn gray.

“This means that for the majority of people, graying hair is not down to something you have done, but to genetic factors beyond your control, and that generally your lifestyle will not greatly impact on when your hair loses its color,” said Nina Goad Dermatologists.

Hair-thinning on the top of the head, however, is connected to environmental and lifestyle factors.

Scientists concluded that genetic factors regardless of how stressful a woman’s life is may lead to graying hair at a certain age.
