New Delhi, October 03: Asking the Centre not to put the patience of Telangana people on test, Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday announced that the general strike of employees would continue till the Centre announces a decision on formation of separate state.
Talking to media persons at Rajghat, KCR stated that the Telangana people were not in a position to believe Congress in-charge of state affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad’s statements seeking some more time to find a solution. Instead of buying time, he advised Azad to announce an early decision on the issue putting an end to uncertainty.
“There is no meaning of having consultations when the people in the region are ending their lives seeking formation of separate state,” he stated. Claiming that the statehood agitation has been non-violent for the last 11 years, he expressed confidence the agitation would continue in a same way despite government adopting coercive and provocative steps.
KCR expressed concern over the government resorting to misusing of police force and attacking the employees’ leaders. He also slammed the Centre for not responding properly despite the general strike entered 20thy day in the state paralyzing administration.
The TRS president asked Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to honour his promise made on December 9, 2009, over the Telangana state and begin the process of its formation. “There is will be no value of democracy if he did not respect his own statement made in the Parliament,” he pointed out.
The TRS chief stated that he would meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan singh on Monday seeking an early decision on Telangana state.
Earlier, KCR along with Telangana activists held a sit-in at Rajghat and observed silence for over two hours to mark the 142nd birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kothandaram and some of its JAC members joined KCR. Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader Ch Vidyasagar Rao was also present.
The TRS leaders stated that KCR had undertaken the sit-in to highlight their demand for the creation of a Telangana state and to tell the Centre that “time was running out” to take a decision on the issue.
