Gender studies, theatre and law among CBSE electives

Theatre, Gender studies and law will be some of the new electives offered to students by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the 2014-15 sessions.

The electives also include NCC, Human Rights, Knowledge Traditions and Practices of India and these subjects will be offered to students of classes 11 and 12. The board said the subjects will deal with their historical and current contexts.
Teachers have appreciated the move as they believe it will broaden the scope of learning for their students.

“Many a time’s students come to us and say they don’t find their elective subjects interesting. The options are too limited. This step of the CBSE will not only provide them more subjects but also enhance kids’ learning abilities,” said a teacher at a government school.

Students will sit for board exams for these subjects in March 2015.
