New Delhi, March 11: Lieutenant General S N Handa, a senior infantry officer, would take over as the new Director General of Infantry at the Army Headquarters tomorrow.
“As Director General Infantry, he will play a pivotal role in the ongoing transformation of the infantry soldier into a modern net centric subunit,” an Army press statement said here today.
Commissioned into the 5/3 Gorkhas in November 1971 on the eve of Bangladesh war, the General has served along the borders with both Pakistan and China in Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal, Sikkim, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh covering different terrains and environments.
He commanded a battalion at Dera Baba Nanak (Punjab) at the peak of Punjab militancy from 1990?1993, an Infantry Brigade during Operation Parakram military build up in 2001-02 following the terror attack on Parliament and Operation Aman during the Gujarat riots.
