New Delhi, Oct. 15 : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday confirmed the finding of family members of Geeta, the 23-year-old Indian girl who mysteriously ended up in Pakistan, adding that she would be handed over to the family after a DNA test.
“Geeta will be back in India soon. We have located her family. She will be handed over to them only after the DNA test,” Swaraj said in a tweet.
The incident came to light after the release of Salman Khan starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijan’ earlier this year, which narrated a similar story.
Pakistani human rights activist Ansar Burney was trying to locate Geeta’s parents in India for years.
Geeta, now 21, was found by the Pakistan Rangers 13 years ago, sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express in Lahore that had come across the Wagah border.
She was taken to the Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s largest charity home. (ANI)
