Ahmedabad, August 31: Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) marketing its products under the brand Amul, will hike the milk prices for second time this year by Rs 1 per litre in the city from tomorrow, a senior federation official said today.
Milk prices in New Delhi and other parts of Gujarat are expected to be hiked within a week’s time, he said.
“A decision to hike the milk prices by Rs 1 per litre in Ahmedabad from September 1 has been taken, while the price hike in New Delhi and other districts of Gujarat is likely to come into effect from next week,” GCMMF Chief General Manager, R S Sodhi told PTI.
The procurement cost of milk has risen considerably in last few months. Due to increased cost of cattle feed, farmers have been under pressure, therefore we have taken a decision to hike the milk prices, Sodhi said.
“In the wake of rising cost of cattle feed we have also urged the Central government to reduce excise duty and VAT on molasses, a key ingredient of cattle feed,” he said.
Prior to this, GCMMF had hiked milk prices in two phases by Rs 1 per litre in the month of May and June this year.
