Gauri Lankesh Murder: Journalists protest in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: There is a wave of anger throughout the country against the brutal killing of free, frank and fearless journalist Gauri Lankesh. In Hyderabad, Journalists, Intellectuals and concerned citizens staged a massive protest at Fateh Maidan, near the office of Press Club of Hyderabad. A large number of members of Indian Journalists’ Union participated in the protest. The atmosphere echoed with the slogans raised in Urdu, Hindi, Telugu and English like, “Nahin Chalegi Nahin Chalegi, Gundagardi Nahin Chalegi”, “Gauri Ke Qatilon ko Phansi do”, “RSS BJP Down Down”.

Senior leader of Indian Journalists’ Union, Mr. K. Srinivas Reddy, Secretary of IJU, Mr. D. Amar, News Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily, Mr. Amer Ali Khan, Chief Editor of Sakshi, Mr. Ramchandara Murthi, Chief Editor of 99TV, Mr. Ajeetha, former Head of the Dept. of Journalism, OU, Prof. P.L. Vishweshwara Rao, Mr. M.A. Majid, Mr. Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed, Mr. Syed Khaleel Qadri, Mr. Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin, Mr. Zahed Farooqui and others participated in the protest program. Prof. Vishweshwara Rao and Mr. Amer Ali Khan while talking to TV Channels condemned the brutal Assassination in harsh words and said that organized attacks are being held against the journalists who expose the conspiracies of the communal elements. They demanded the Central Govt. and Govt. of Karnataka to arrest the culprits as early as possible and take action.

Mr. Amer Ali Khan told that Muslims, Dalits and Journalists are not safe in this country. The elements of intolerance are raising their heads. It is essential to stop them. He applauded the unity exhibited by the Journalists.

Mr. Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed, President, the Hyderabad Union of Journalists also condemned the murder.

On Thursday, at 12:30 p.m., a protest meeting would be held at Charminar in which the leaders of Indian Journalists’ Union and Telangana Union of Working Journalists will participate.
