Hyderabad, December 26: Civil Supplies Department has decided to introduce a novel project of integrated smart cards on biometric system to check large-scale complaints of irregularities through which unscrupulous elements obtain food grains.
As per the proposed scheme only those people would be supplied with gas cylinders and food grains who possess smart cards.
The department has set up special centers in 9 circles to issue smart cards and during the last three months work is in progress in these centers to issue Adhar numbers.
A total of 100 centers will be set up in the city to collect biometric details for Adhar number.
These cards will bear the photographs of each member of the family and also the thumb prints. This would eliminate chances of fraudulent names in these cards. These cards will help confirm the identity of the beneficiaries.
Confirmation of identity is required for opening bank account, obtaining new gas connection, getting new mobile phones or water and electric connections. And everywhere ration cards are produced. But, after it came to light that huge quantity of food grains could find way to black-markets by using bogus ration cards the government decided to introduce biometric system of smart cards.
