It is an open secret that gas consumers are more worried now than in the past. Even those who have liked their Adhar card and bank account with their gas company are still deprived of the subsidy amount. They were not refunded the subsidy amount for 3 to 4 months. During this period they bought 3 to 4 cylinders for which they paid Rs. 1096 to 1130 per cylinder. They are tired of making rounds of their respective banks and gas agencies but have not got any satisfactory response. The consumers are told to contact the respective office in Chennai and Mumbai but when contacted only thing they get is assurance for resolving the problem.
Paying an amount of Rs. 1100 is an encumbrance for middle and poor class people. This scheme was launched to rein in corruption but the direct cash transfer scheme has added to the woes of already troubled consumers. Those who are paid subsidy amount have to pay more amount than those who are getting non-subsidized cylinders because the former have to pay VAT of nearly Rs. 48 for the subsidized cylinders and the rate of cylinders varies with the global gas rate.
