New Delhi: A gas agency employee was shot dead allegedly by suspected robbers who decamped with a bag containing Rs 3.5 lakh in outer Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area, police said today.
Jagannath, in his 40s, and his uncle, who worked with a gas agency, were going to the agency owner’s house with the day’s earnings on a motorcycle yesterday when they were stopped by another motorcycle-borne three men, whose faces were covered, they said.
Jagannath, who was the pillion rider, was holding the bag containing the cash. The accused started snatching the bag from him but he did not let go off it, the police said.
One of the accused fired at Jagannath and fled with the bag, they said.
He was taken to a hospital where he died during the treatment, the police said.
The police have begun a probe and are questioning other employees of the gas agency, they said.
It is suspected that someone who knew that the day’s earnings were being taken by Jagannath to the owner’s house could have leaked the information to the accused, the police added.
