Garbage cleaning resumes

Hyderabad, February 25: With sanitation workers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) resuming work, approximately 5,100 metric tonnes of garbage has been removed from the main and internal roads. The waste has also been transported to Jawahar Nagar dumping yard till Thursday evening. GHMC officials said the entire garbage in the city would be cleaned and transported by Friday afternoon.

As a part of the non-cooperation movement, sweeping and transportation of garbage had stopped since the last three days.

GHMC officials held a meeting with workers’ unions to resume the work in interests of public health. After the unions were convinced, sweeping of roads and transportation of garbage commenced from the midnight of February 23. All 20,000 sweeping workers and 663 solid waste transportation vehicles resumed work. Dumper bins are being lifted round-the-clock and transported to Jawahar Nagar dumping yard.
