Ganguly congratulates Tendulkar for being chosen as India’s Rio brand ambassador

Kolkata : Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has wished cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar luck after he accepted the Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) invitation to be one of the goodwill ambassadors for the Indian contingent for this year’s Rio Olympics.

The 43-year-old said that Tendulkar had tremendously contributed for India and, therefore, the IOA had decided to choose him as the brand ambassador.

“I wish him all the best. There is Abhinav Bhindra as well, who has done wonders for India. Sachin Tendulkar has also done wonders for India. And that is the way Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had thought,” Ganguly told the media here.

The IOA’s decision to invite Tendulkar and Bindra as goodwill ambassadors came after Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s appointment left the sporting fraternity divided, with London Olympics bronze-medallist Yogeshwar Dutt and legendary sprinter Milkha Singh questioning the move.

Meanwhile, those in support of Salman believe that his selection would give a glamour quotient to the Indian team’s presence at the Olympics and would also help in drawing maximum attention from the masses for the Games. (ANI)
