The Gangula family has rejected the congress party’s request to contest from the Allagadda constituency in the by-elections, schedule for which was announced.
Talking to the media here on Wednesday, Gangula brothers Pratap Reddy and Prabhakar Reddy have said they could not continue in Congress as it has been following dual standards. They have announced that they would be resigning to the party.
It may be mentioned that Gangula Pratrapa Reddy has resigned to his Nandyal Lok Sabha seat and offered it to P V Narasimha Rao when latter became the Prime Minister. For his sacrifice, he was offered several things at that time. But he was totally ignored by the party in the later years. Gangula brothers have been unhappy that they were totally ignored by the Congress party.
Allagadda seat has fallen vacant because of the resignation of PRP MLA Shobha Nagi Reddy who is contesting as YSR Congress candidate in the by-elections. It is learnt that Gangula brothers would join the YSR Congress shortly.
When asked about the Allagadda by-election, Pratapa Reddy has refused to comment. He simply said that he would not be contesting as congress candidate. He said he did not know who the Congress candidate was. When asked when he and his brother would quit Congress, Pratapa Reddy has said time alone would decide it. He also maintained that he did not know that the Congress party has appointed ministers Erasu Pratapa Reddy and T G Venkatesh as in-charges for the Allagadda constituency. In Kurnool district, Bhuma Nagi Reddy, his wife Shobha Nagi Reddy and Gangula Pratapa Reddy are forces to reckon with. Nagi Reddy and his wife have already joined the YSR Congress. If Gangula brothers also join Jagan band wagon, it would be an impossible task for the Congress to win the Allagadda seat, say political observers. (NSS)
