Gangster who killed accomplice held in Delhi

New Delhi: A dreaded gangster wanted in the kidnapping of a businessman from Nepal and also involved in the killing a fellow gang member in Bihar was arrested here, police said on Monday.

Police said Vikas Singh of Motihari was wanted in Bihar after he along with his accomplices Rahul Singh and Kunal Singh killed fellow gangster Babloo Dubey on May 11, 2017 when he was brought from jail to a court in Bettiah.

“A Crime Branch team on Saturday received a tip that Vikas was hiding in south Delhi and will meet his contact outside Sangam Cinema in R.K. Puram. We arrested him,” Additional Commissioner of Police Rajiv Ranjan said.

Vikas Singh has since been taken on transit remand by the Bihar Police.

Vikas told police during interrogation that Babloo was killed since he refused to share the ransom amount of Rs 10 crore that he collected from business tycoon Suresh Kedia who was kidnapped in 2016, Ranjan said.

The police officer said that the conspiracy to kidnap Kedia was hatched in the Buxar jail by Babloo Dubey who roped in Kunal Singh and Rahul Singh. The gang kidnapped Kedia from Birganj in Nepal on May 25, 2016 and forced him to pay a huge ransom. Kedia was later rescued.

Babloo Dubey was a mafia don of Champaran in Bihar and said to be involved in more than 50 cases of murder and kidnappings for ransom and extortion.

The officer said Vikas Singh was planning to kill a businessman in Uttar Pradesh after receiving a contract of Rs 15 lakh from an east Delhi-based criminal.
