Maoist turned gangster Nayeem, was killed on Monday during an exchange of fire with police in Telangana’s Shadnagar town, officials said.
Nayeem, was accused of killing an IPS officer and many former Maoist leaders. He was travelling in a four wheeler at the time of encounter. His associate started firing at the police when the police intercepted his vehicle. While the driver managed to escape, Nayeem opened fire on police, who returned the fire that killed him. One AK-47 and a revolver were found from the vehicle, R. Rajeshwari, Mahbubnagar SP told the media.
Mohammed Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem, a native of Bhongir town in Nalgonda, was an accused in several high-profile criminal cases, including the murder of Indian Police Service officer K.L. Vyas.
Nayeem was allegedly also involved in over 120 criminal cases, including 20 murder cases. He was an accused in the murder of civil rights leaders Purshottam and Niranjan, singer Belli Lalitha, former Maoists and TRS leader Sambasivudu and others.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons, DGP Anurag Sharma said that on the receipt of information about Nayeem’ s movements, Grey Hounds rushed to the spot and surrounded the house where Nayeem was hiding. On seeing the police, Nayeem started firing and he was killed in the exchange of fire. (INN)
