New Delhi: A gangster, carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his head and wanted in a case in which three persons, including a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector and a gangster, were killed, has been arrested from Karnataka, the police said today.
On April 30, gangster Monu Daryapur, his personal security officers — Assistant Sub-Inspector Vijay Kumar and Constable Kuldeep — and two others, Arun Shastri and Yogesh, were attacked by armed assailants at outer Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar.
The armed men had fired indiscriminately at their car, killing Monu, Kumar and Shastri and injuring the other two.
The main accused in the case — Rajesh alias Raje (47) — was arrested from Madangir in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka on July 26, said P S Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
He added that this was the third arrest in connection with the case. On May 20, one Satish was nabbed and on June 8, Naveen Khatri was arrested for his role in planning the attack.
Rajesh had hatched a plan to kill Ramesh Lohar, a gangster, and Sonu Daryapur wanted to kill Monu, said the DCP, adding that Rajesh and Daryapur had joined hands to eliminate their respective rivals.
Lohar was associated with Krishan Pahalwan, a gangster from Delhi, since both were lodged in the Rohtak Jail, he said, adding that to counter Lohar, who enjoyed the patronage of the Pahalwan gang, Rajesh had joined hands with Daryapur.
On March 28, Lohar was attacked at the Rohtak Court complex, purportedly on the directions of Rajesh. Lohar managed to escape the attack but one of his associates, Sanjeet, was killed, said the DCP.
