Hyderabad, September 23: Ganesh idol immersion festivities proved fatal for a three-year boy after he accidentally fell from a moving truck carrying a Ganesh idol at Chatrinaka today.
The boy, Sravan, fell off from a truck while he was being handed over to his mother from the truck.
Sravan was the son of Kiran Kumar, a tailor from Chatrinaka. Kiran Kumar along with his son boarded a truck carrying the Ganesh idol installed in the locality.
After moving for some distance, Kiran Kumar thought that it would be late in the night by the time the immersion of idol completes and wanted Sravan to be left at the house.
“Kiran Kumar was handing over the boy to his mother when the boy slipped and f e l l on the ground,’’ police said. Sravan suffered severe head injury and died while being shifted to a nearby private hospital.
Meanwhile, a constable belonging to the first battalion of Andhra Pradesh Special Police, Yousufguda Police Lines died after he got crushed between two vehicles on Tuesday night.
Jubilee Hills police said that D Varaprasad and few of his colleagues had installed a Ganesh idol in the Police Lines premises. On Tuesday, organisers were supposed to move the idol for immersion in the Hussain Sagar. For the purpose, Varaprasad brought a Tusker vehicle.
But the tyres of the vehicle got sunk into the loose soil while it was being brought near the Ganesh pandal.
Varaprasad planned to tow the vehicle by using a tipper vehicle.
“The tipper supposed to pull the Tusker vehicle was on an upper plain. Varaprasad tried to tie a rope between the two vehicles. But the tipper accidentally rolled back and he got trapped between the vehicles,’’ Jubilee Hills police said.
Varaprasad was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital. He died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment, according to police.
