Vijayawada, September 21: Fourteen persons met with a watery grave in Krishna, Guntur and Khammam districts and four others were found missing while participating in the Ganesh immersion procession today.
Six persons were feared drowned in a village tank while immersing the Lord in Gollanapalli village in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district,
Four others were missing and their bodies are yet to be traced.
The deceased were identified as Nageswara Rao, Jamalaiah, Daniel, Ch Prasad, Ganesh and Ashok. The villagers fished out the bodies of six
persons from the tank.
Meanwhile two persons of Subbarayagudem village of Penuganchiprolu mandal were washed away in Mulleru stream. The deceased are yet to be identified.
In Guntur district three persons including R Vijayakrishna (22) of Chebrolu, S Srinivasa Rao (35) and Adapa Srinu (28) of Karlapalem village
were drowned in East Tungabhadra drain while taking part in the Nimajjan. The bodies of Vijayakrishna and Srinivasa Rao were retrieved. Search is on for another body.
Meanwhile in Khammam district three persons including two tenth class students were drowned during immersion. Gogula Ravi (15) of Kothuru village and Irpa Raju (15) of Gangaram village were washed away while immersing the idol in Godavari at Kollugudemvillage.
The mishap occurred when the students of Saraswathi Sisumandir went to Godavari for Ganesh immersion. While the rest of the students reached ashore, two students were washed away.
In another incident Banotu Samya (35) of Jampalanagaram was washed away in Sagar canal while immersing the Ganesh idol.
