Government Chief Whip Ganda Venkata Ramana Reddy on Sunday hailed the signing of agreement between the State and Maharashtra Government for the Pranahita-Chevella project.
Talking to reporters at Congress Legislature Party Office, Venkata Ramana Reddy described the signing of agreement as historic occasion which would benefit seven districts of Telangana region. He said the project would provide irrigation and drinking water facility to thousands of farmers in the Telangana region, including the State capital. He also hoped that the Centre would soon give National Project status to Pranahita-Chevella project.
Venkata Ramana Reddy ridiculed the criticism by opposition parties over the agreement with the Maharashtra Government and said that Pranahita-Chevella project would give a fitting reply to those who questioned the implementation of Jala Yagnam projects. He also appealed to the government to start the Polavaram project by changing its present design.
He also dismissed the reports that signing of agreement for Pranahita-Chevalla was a part of the package to divert attention from the Telangana statehood agitation. He said the region should develop, both before and after the formation of Telangana. He said the Congress party would ensure that the on-going statehood agitation does not hamper the development of Telangana region at any stage. (INN)
