Gandhinagar, March 16: Gujarat’s capital Gandhinagar is to finally get a municipal corporation, a move that would provide local citizens a forum to voice their problems and also improve basic amenities and other facilities.
Urban Development Minister Nitin Patel today announced in the Assembly that a municipal corporation will be set up in the state capital, which was without a local body till now. He was speaking on budgetary demands of grant for his department.
The announcement comes in the wake of a Gujarat High Court order last September directing the government to set up a civic body in Gandhinagar within six months.
Today was the last day to adhere to the court order, passed on a petition moved by a local charitable trust.
