Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the world is plagued with two problems: terrorism and global warming, and suggested turning towards Gandhian philosophies and principles to tackle these issues.
“Today, the world is facing two major problems: terrorism and global warming. Gandhian ideals have the solution to these problems and China has opened its doors to Gandhian philosophies, which is a landmark event,” the Prime Minister said, while inaugurating the Centre for Gandhian and Indian studies at the Fudan University here.
“There is no limit and direction to knowledge,” he added.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the students and called himself ‘fortunate’ to be able to attend the auspicious event.
“There are very few political leaders in the world who have the good fortune of meeting students from universities outside their country. I am happy and thankful to you for giving me this chance. Today is historic. I have joined a very auspicious occasion here,” he said.
“It is easy to open doorways for the economy and tourism, but to open doors for knowledge, one needs great inner strength,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister met Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong and Communist Party Secretary of Shanghai Han Zheng.
He also met the top business tycoons of China and pitched the ‘Make in India’ initiative to them, and witnessed the inking of multi-billion dollar deals between Indian and Chinese business firms.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to depart for Mongolian capital Ulan Bator later today. (ANI)
