Mines and Geology Minister Galla Aruna Kumari met Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who arrived here on Monday and requested him to allot Tirupati ticket to her son in the ensuing by-election caused by the resignation of Chiranjeevi, consequent to his election to Rajya Sabha.
Aruna Kumari met the Chief Minister in the Padmavati guest house and made the request.
Talking to the media later, Aruna said that her son Jaya Dev was a Congress leader and was aspiring for that ticket. She said that they want him to serve the people. However, decision on the matter was in the hands of the High Command, she added. She also said that she would work for the victory of whomever the High Command might choose to contest from Tirupati. Stating that the Chief Minister knows every thing about district politics, she pointed out that she was not of the type to chase some one for the ticket. She said that they all belonged to Congress and would remain so, whether or not they get party tickets. She also said that her family was trying to promote Jaya Dev as he was showing interest in entering politics. She said that people of the area knew who were locals and who were not. She said that they were seeking ticket as the occasion arose now.
The Chief Minister, who arrived here on a two-day tour has been meeting party leaders to select the right candidate for the by-poll. Both Chiranjeevi and Galla Aruna groups are insisting on Congress ticket for themselves. (NSS)
