The CBI Special Court at Nampally on Monday adjourned the hearing to May 11 on the bail petition of former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy, in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation illegal mining case.
After hearing the arguments of both Gali and CBI’s counsels, the court posted the petition to May 11 for next hearing.
Earlier, the court dismissed the petition of Gali Janardhan Reddy to transfer his bail petition to the Second Additional Special Court as the predecessor judge B Nagamaruthi Sarma had already heard the bail plea in part. While dismissing his appeal, the court adjourned the hearing on the bail petition of Gali Janardhan Reddy to May 5.
Noted criminal advocate Ram Jethmalani appeared in the court to argue for Gali Janardhan Reddy’s bail petition. Ram Jathmalani claimed that his client Gali Janardhan Reddy never cheated the government by resorting to illegal mining in the Anantapur and Bellary.
Stating that the government got 80 percent income through mining in Obulapuram, he argued that the State could give mining leases only after the Centre clears the proposed lands for mining. Claiming that his client was innocent, Ram Jethmalani appealed to court to sanction bail to his client.
However, the CBI sought more time to file counter petition on Gali’s bail petition as the Additional Solicitor did not turn up. Directing the CBI to file counter petition, the court had then adjourned the Gali’s bail petition to May 5. (INN)
